Description

The conventional assessment of the environmental impact of a system is based on estimates of the “damage” caused by its effluents. The aim of the research is to develop thermodynamic models for calculation of the “avoidance exergy cost of pollutant emissions”, assumed as indicator for environmental damage.
This method consists in the calculation of the additional consumption of exergy that would allow the system to release effluents in the environment with zero exergy content. The effluents are brought to equilibrium with the environment by state-of-the-art processes and technologies for which the exergy costs can be reliably calculated.
