The activities described in this proposal will be incorporated into an existing project titled “Innovative Configuration of a Fully Renewable Hybrid CSP Plant – Hysol”, ongoing since may 2014 and funded by the European Commission. FP7-ENERGY-2012–1. CP 308912. The researcher involved in this position will be working with a laboratory scale fluidized bed reactor and a rotary reactor to investigate the steam gasification and pyrolysis of biomass. The aim is to evaluate the effect of different operating parameters (temperature, biomass properties, throughput and particle size, steam flow rates, air and nitrogen flow rates, fluid dynamic conditions) in the yield and composition of the resulting gases, solids and oils. The use of reforming (Ni and Fe based) and cracking (zeolites, alkaline minerals) catalysts on the composition and energy efficiency of the process will be evaluated.
